Someone said to me (the truth is that it is a different someone in every such session..):
“If I accept reality – then maybe I will just stop wanting?”
But acceptance does not contradict aspiration.
On the contrary – it allows us to want without fighting.
To want from a place of freedom. Without grasping.
Acceptance is not stopping dreaming – it is agreeing to be where I am even while I am still on the way.
And then it is simply wonderful because I enjoy the journey and not just the result.
Because you know what happens when we achieve the desired result – the next thing that we really must achieve in order to be happy immediately arises..
So accepting reality as it is, actually guarantees us a way out of this crazy spiral.
On the grave of my dear friend Shay, who left us far too early, are engraved the immortal words of John Lennon:
“Life is what happens to you while you are busy, making other plans”
And this is what acceptance of what is allows us to avoid, a life feeling missed, because we were not there when the experiences – more or less pleasant – happened. We were busy with future plans..
So again a question to conclude:
Do you allow yourself to want – without judging where you are now?
